Frances Hwang is the author of the short story collection Transparency, which won the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction and a PEN Open Book Award. She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award and fellowships from New York University Shanghai, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, Colgate University, the MacDowell Colony, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work has been read as part of the Selected Shorts series at Symphony Space and has appeared in such publications as The New Yorker, Best New American Voices, Tin House, Glimmer Train, Subtropics, AGNI Online, and Puerto del Sol. She has taught creative writing at various universities, most recently at NYU Shanghai and Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.
